Double Bay is an eastern harbourside suburb of Sydney, located between Point Piper and Darling Point. Originally known as Keltie Cove after the master of HMS Sirius, the area was later renamed Double Bay around 1821. The name is believed to be inspired by the area’s unique shape, which forms two distinct bays separated by a narrow strip of land.
During the 19th century, DOUBLE BAY was a bustling hub for maritime activities, with its waters teeming with boats and sailors. Over the years, it has transformed from a quiet fishing village into a vibrant and affluent suburb, known for its natural beauty, urban luxury, and rich cultural atmosphere.
Today, DOUBLE BAY maintains its village feel with leafy streets, upscale boutiques, and a prominent harbourside location. It is home to popular dining spots, cafes, and pubs such as The Sheaf and The Royal Oak. The Double Bay Wharf remains a prominent landmark, and the area is also known for its iconic Murray Rose Pool (formerly Redleaf Pool), which is one of Sydney’s harbour baths and a favourite spot for swimming and relaxation.
Double Bay's blend of natural beauty, convenience, and culture has made it one of Sydney's most desirable locations, offering both a vibrant social scene and a tranquil retreat by the water.

Double Bay`s transformation from a rural area to the exclusive suburb it is today began with its early European settlement in 1788. Initially, it was used by fishermen who frequented the harbour.
By 1814, farmland had expanded to cover the valleys that would later develop into the suburbs of Woollahra, Bondi Junction, Bellevue Hill, and Point Piper. This marked the beginning of the area`s gradual evolution, eventually setting the stage for Double Bay to become one of Sydney`s most desirable and sought-after eastern suburbs.
